Dental Implantology: On the Move

We have discussed the advantages of dental implants in this space before. We have typically focused on a few key aspects: dental implants are long-lasting restorative, and cosmetically flawless.

But no matter how many times we think that the word has been sufficiently spread, we hear of another emerging market where dental implantology remains exotic and unknown. This recent article discusses explosive growth throughout Eastern Europe of late, at a rate which may be poised to match the meteoric rise of dental implants here in the U.S.

The reason for this growth may sound familiar:

Over a relatively short period, implants have become a common practice among people with missing teeth primarily due to accidents, disease, or injuries. Dental implants are mostly made of titanium and zirconium among which titanium has emerged as a choice of material for implant design within dental laboratories and dentists globally.

These safe, benign, and robust materials are driving a global market that shows no signs of cooling. There has never been a better time to brush up on your own dental surgery skills and train your staff to offer the best dental implantology options in the state.

We can help. Call us today to reserve a spot in our California implantology seminars.

Dispatching the Myths of Dental Implants

Here we go again. Dental implant surgery is a tremendously popular trend in dentistry, with more patients opting every year to undertake the process.

But some pernicious myths remain – and some are surprisingly stubborn. That’s why we’re grateful for articles such as this one, which help to dispel some of the common myths and inject a little sense into the conversation.

Our favorite retort:

[Myth:] Only specialists should place dental implants. “This is the most outrageous myth. Worldwide, 80 to 90 percent of general dentists surgically place dental implants. The average oral surgeon or periodontist places 200 implants per year, while the average general dentist who has completed Dr. M’s A.A.F.E. training program places 350 to 600 dental implants per year.” (Implantology is not a recognized specialty.)

This is the key point to the conversation: you don’t need to be a credentialed specialist to understand dental implantology, or to offer safe procedures for most of your patients. All you need is solid training with an experienced set of professionals.

That’s us. Implantology Seminars has been offering the best implant courses in California for many years. Want to learn from the finest experts in the field? Start here.

Modern Dental Implantology Makes Everything Easier

Among other advantages, dental implants offer a deep sense of permanence and simplicity, giving patients the confidence that comes with low-maintenance smiles:

An implant can even help an existing denture from shifting. But while you often have to remove dentures to clean them, dental implants can be cleaned like your other teeth, with no risk of loosening.

It all adds up to a killer technology and a wildly popular service for dentists throughout California. This exploding demand is fueling a growing need for more and better training in dental implantology.

A Touching Story About Dental Implants

We cover all the bases in our dental implant seminars, from background and biology through modern advances and applications. But with so much to learn, it can be valuable sometimes to stop and remember the real story: the many lives that are dramatically improved with dental implantology.

Case in point: this veteran who received outstanding surgical care from a team of physicians in Georgia after being shot in the jaw. After phase one of his procedure, he underwent the addition of several dental implants:

“When we were coming out, the doctor told him, ‘It’s looks like you’re going to get all your teeth back. We’re going to be able to give you back all your teeth,” says Gail Kirby.

They walked around the city smiling and dumbfounded, she says.

Giving people back their smiles is about more than oral health; it’s about mental health too. When you train to be one of the best at this field, you can give your patients lasting comfort and confidence.

The global dental implants market is expected to be USD 6.81 billion by 2024, based on a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. Rising demand for tooth (or teeth) replacement has provided good growth potential to the market. Growing number of dental injuries owing to road accidents and sport injuries are also considered as some of the major factors favoring demand of implants.

Medicine and Dental Implantology

One of the important topics we cover in our popular dental implant seminars is the question of efficacy, and especially which factors are likely to give your patients the best shot at a lasting, healthy implant.

This study has earned some attention for its finding that certain daily medications could affect this success rate. It focused on two common medications – beta blockers, and heartburn medication – and found that one increased the chance of dental implant success, while the other diminished it:

Failure rates of implants for people using beta blockers was 0.6%
Failure rates of implants in people who don’t take beta blockers was 4.1%
[…]
Failure rates of implants for people using heartburn medication were 6.8%
Failure rates of implants for people not taking heartburn medication were 3.2%

The mechanisms behind these findings were fairly straightforward: beta blockers encourage bone growth, which can lead the body to more rapidly assimilate the implant into the jaw. Heartburn medication can reduce calcium absorption, hindering much the same process.

This study is a good reminder that dental implantology is complex, and that proper training and education are essential to building a solid practice. To get started with the best dental implant seminars in California, contact us.

Dental Implants are Built to Last

Dental implantology is growing not just because it offers an easy way to restore missing teeth, but because the implants themselves are built to last.

That is just one of the takeaways from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry’s latest infographic, which underscores the myriad benefits of implants over dentures or crowns, including this important lead-off item:

Strong and stable, a dental implant restores a lost tooth so that it looks, feels, fits and functions like a natural tooth. Other options can lead to bone deterioration, and may interfere with eating, smiling, speaking and other activities of everyday life.

It’s yet another good tool for explaining the ins and outs of dental implants to your patients – one which clearly distinguishes dental implants from older technologies including dentures. And it makes at least one more point that many people might not consider, namely:

Look Mom, no cavities! Cavities can’t occur in an implant-restored crown, or replacement tooth; however, you will need to visit your dentist as scheduled and clean and care for it and your gums and mouth every day, the same as you would if it were a natural tooth.

Dental implantology seminars which walk you through the best techniques, under the guidance of the most expert professionals, are an essential component to gaining knowledge and experience in this field. For the best dental implantology courses in California, please don’t hesitate to sign up today.
